Essie - Borrowed & Blue

Hey guys! Long time no talk! ;) Haha. I hope you've had a great weekend! :D
Sorry I didn't have any posts up for a few days! I didn't really wear much polish last week. I've been feeling uninspired :( and just trying to get my nails & cuticles in better condition since they've been feeling less than healthy lately (they may not look so bad in photos but editing and lots of cuticle oil covers that up usually ;))
While I wasn't posting, I was changing my blog layout. You may notice I change my layout pretty often... I really need to find something I like and stick to it because people won't recognise my blog! lol. Sorry about that. I get bored easily. But anyway, hope you enjoy the new layout! :) I really like this one.

The polish I'm showing you today is one that I've wanted for THE LONGEST TIME. Probably since I first started getting into nails. I don't know why it took me so long to buy it! But I finally did and it came in the mail to me a few days ago!

This is Essie's Borrowed And Blue. It's a super light baby blue creme. I love blue nails and I've always wanted a super super super pale blue, almost white colour but just never bought one!

I was a little disappointed, however. :( I started putting it on and noticed that it was incredibly thick and goopy. And after about 5 minutes, it had bubbled like crazy. Most polishes with a thick consistency like this one bubble on me but it may also have been a combination of the hot weather (icky :( ) and the thickness of the polish.
So after doing my first coat I removed everything, added some thinner to the polish and started again. Then it was muuuch easier to work with. It still bubbled a teeny bit but I couldn't tell unless I looked up super close.
Unfortunately this did chip on me within a few hours and polishes very rarely chip on me - mainly because I don't wear them long enough for them to chip!

This is such a pretty colour! ♥ It's so nice for summer and looks nice with a tan... though I'm not that tanned lol!

Essie - Fiji

I have another old manicure to show you! I can't remember when exactly I wore this... I'd say it was probably in October though.

This is Essie's Fiji! I'm sure most of you nail polish girls have heard of this colour or own it! I actually don't own this one anymore, I gave it to my friend because I have an almost-dupe in my collection.

Fiji is a really really really light baby pink. It almost looks white sometimes!
The only issue I had with this polish, is that it took me a few coats to get it even with no bald spots. :( I think these photos show 3 or 4 thin coats.
And in the shade photo you can see that my Seche Vite shrunk at my cuticles a bit. -_- lol.
The colour in my stash that is similar to this but has a better formula is Sinful Colors Easy Going. So if you can get your hands on that one (which is loads cheaper), I'd recommend it. It only takes 2 coats for opacity for me. :)

Do you own Fiji? I would not be surprised if this is one of Essie's best sellers! Now that I'm looking at the photos, I might have to repurchase Fiji!

12 Favourites Of 2012

Hi guys! :) Merry Christmas Eve Eve! ;) LOL. Today I have my 12 favourite polishes/manicures of 2012 to show you, instead of the "Santa's Swimsuit" mani for the Aussie Christmas Challenge. I know, I failed at my own challenge. LOL. I tried a few designs and it just failed miserably so sorry about that! This post is 100x better anyway. ;)
I wasn't going to do this because I didn't think I really had many favourites but I was tagged on Instagram to do the #myfavemanis2012 tag and I did have a fair few favourites so I decided to share them with you here too. :)

2012 was the year of nail polish for me. :P I've been into nails for probably almost 2 years now but I used to be more into artificial nails. I started "collecting" polish in February and I now have about 250 polishes is my guess. (Although my guesses are usually WAAAAAAY off so it's probably more like 300 :P)
Beware: You'll see a whole lot of different nail lengths/shapes in this post!
Oh, and these are in no particular order! :)

1. China Glaze "Ruby Pumps"
I've had this polish for about 4-ish months and wore it for the first time at the start of December! I don't really see myself wearing it other than around Christmas and maybe in winter, but it sure is a gorgeous one. I absolutely fell in love with it. "Ruby Pumps" is probably in the top 3 best selling China Glaze polishes. <3

2. MaxFactor "Fantasy Fire"
The elusive "Fantasy Fire" was released in Australia this year! I went crazy for it. When I found out about it, I literally ran to the shops in freezing cold weather just to get it. LOL. It's dupey of Clarins "230" which is why it's so popular. The picture says it all. (Worn over Revlon "Royal")

3. Gloss n Sparkle "Mirage"

"Mirage" by Gloss n Sparkle is just gorgeous. I'm a sucker for pastels and this one has glitter in it so of course I fell head over heels for it. ;) Beautiful beautiful beautiful.

4. OPI "Warm and Fozzie"

This polish was probably one of my first blog posts! :) If you read that post, you'll know I had some issues with it. Mainly because I paid full price for it (OPI's ridiculously expensive here) and then dropped the bag on a tile floor and it smashed. Luckily I was able to save some of it! I have one mini bottle full of it now, plus half another mini bottle and then I managed to pick up an extra mini of it from a blog sale! :D "Warm and Fozzie" is just gorgeous. A bit duochrome-y, a bit glass-fleck-y, ahh I love it.

5. Christmassy Half Moon Manicure

This mani was from the start of December and I loved it so much! I got a lot of compliments when I wore it! :) The polishes I used were Ulta3 "Antique Copper" and "Black Plum", with Milani's "Gold" placed glitter around the half moon.

6. Navy Holo
OPI "Russian Navy" with Gloss n Sparkle's Spectraflair topcoat over it! Please excuse the slightly messy cuticles. This mani was from about June or July-ish, and I hadn't mastered cleanup yet lol. :) I totally loved this mani.

7. Chevron Manicure
Look at these claws! Haha. I remember absolutely loving this mani. I love the colour combo! The blue is China Glaze "For Audrey" which is also a favourite in itself! A great colour and everyone needs it (or one like it)! I can't believe I haven't done this chevron pattern mani since this one because I really loved it and so did a lot of people I showed!

8. OPI "Man With The Golden Gun"

I don't think I could do a favourites post without including this. OPI's "Man With The Golden Gun" is an 18k gold flake topcoat and I'm sure you've all heard about it, or perhaps the other gold flake topcoats going around. I've worn it once so far, over OPI "DS Mystery".

9. OPI "Just Spotted The Lizard"
I'm typically not a huge duochrome fan. I think most people know that about me. But this was one that I totally fell in love with! It's a dupe for Chanel's "Peridot" and it's amazing. I think this is also my boyfriend's favourite polish of mine haha.

10. Nails Inc "Sweets Way"

This was on my wishlist for ages before I finally bought it. I'm a sucker for glitter in a milky base and this one stole my heart! :) <3 It's adorable.

11. Emily De Molly "Blue Moon"
This is a custom polish that Hayley of Emily De Molly made and sold to some Aussie girls. I don't think she makes this anymore though, sorry. :( I absolutely adore this, it is so sparkly! Pictured over China Glaze "Dorothy Who".

12. Essie "Shine Of The Times"

"Shine Of The Times" took me almost a year to get! Haha! It's a beautiful orange to green shifting flakie that looks most amazing over black. <3

Aussie Nails Monday - 17/12 Sponging

So another Aussie Nails Monday post going up later than expected. :( Eeeek. I'm sorry! Today's post was delayed because...well, to be honest, I couldn't be bothered. LOL. It was a really nice day so I sat outside in the sun most of the day! And then I took a chunk of skin off my thumb and sliced my middle finger, boooo! :( But that will not stop me from doing some hopefully cool sponged nails for ANM!

For my sponged mani I used two coats of Essie's Mint Candy Apple and waited for it to dry. If I were doing just a solid colour mani, it would definitely need a third coat because it was a bit patchy/streaky (as Essie pastels tend to be) but I was going to sponge over it so I didn't bother.
I then used a kitchen sponge and OPI Pink Friday for my gradient. I use this technique for my gradients and it works really well for me.
I added Emily de Molly's Black And White Love Affair over the gradient! I think it looks so cute!

I wish I hadn't changed my nail shape back to squares. :( I usually don't mind my nails no matter what shape they are and I'm all "it's okay, they'll grow back" but right now I hate them. :( *sigh*

Aussie Christmas 15/12 - Christmas Tree

Hey guys! :) Today's challenge prompt is "Christmas Tree"! A coincidence because today we put up our Christmas Tree! :) Well, actually, I didn't even know my siblings were putting it up so I didn't help. :(
I'm annoyed I didn't get this up by midnight. :( Haha.

For my mani I used three coats of Sally Hansen Brick Wall on my pointer, middle and pinky, topped with 2 coats of Rimmel Ruby Crush. You could use ANY red user this Rimmel glitter because it almost fully covers the base colour!

On my thumb and ring finger I used 2 coats of OPI Designer De Better (Am I the only one who thinks that's a weird name..? Or maybe I'm just slow and don't get it hahah). Then for the Christmas tree I used a striper to paint it, with Essie Mojito Madness. For the baubles and star I used Ulta3 Blue Marlin, Frangipani and Butter London Pillar Box Red. I also dabbed some of Ulta3 Luck Of The Irish all over the place. Haha.

This is Halloween: 31/10 Recreate Your Fave

Happy Halloween! :)
I've said it before but I don't celebrate Halloween (I think 90% of Aussies don't, really, but it's becoming more popular each year), though I am into all of the cute Halloween novelties and especially Halloween polishes!

For the last day of the This is Halloween challenge, we're supposed to recreate our favourite from another blogger (or just anyone) who participated in the challenge! :)

I decided to recreate Plisherrific's super cute Bat nail art! :D (She got her idea from Nail Craze with Dayze)
I thought it was SO cute so I had to recreate it. I'm so into cute designs like this rather than anything gory or spooky.

For my base colour I used Essie Fear or Desire (I used up about half of my mini bottle during this challenge!) and then added Essie Shine of the Times. For the bats I used my BYS Black striper, and my BYS White striper (which I really need to replace, it's very gummy and stringy). I also used Ulta3 Black Satin and Lily White for the eyes. :)

Damn the smudged pinky finger. :(

This is Halloween: 29/10 Graveyard

This is the second last day of the This is Halloween Challenge! :( How sad! Today's theme is Graveyard, and I did a pretty simple and predictable mani, hehe.

Tombstones, of course!

For the actual tombstone, I freehand-ed it with the regular polish brush and I used BYS Matte Grey (sorry about the messy bottle lol). Then Essie Mojito Madness for the grass. I wrote 'RIP' on each tombstone with a BYS Black striper. I topped it all off with Sally Hansen Insta Dri top coat.

SUPER simple and easy nail art! :)

Tomorrow is the LAST day of the Halloween challenge! :( I'm gonna be stuck for post ideas! Hahah, let me know if you have any requests!

This is Halloween: 22/10 Gradient

Hey guys! :)

I have not had a good day and I am sooo tired so this post will probably be kept short.

For the Gradient theme of the This is Halloween challenge, I knew from the start I'd want to do a 'candy corn' inspired gradient! :) I think the colours on candy corn look so fun and bright and festive. But I do not like candy corn. :| My sister bought a packet of them from Jelly Belly last year and I was NOT expecting them to taste the way they did. I thought they'd be like gummy lollies or something but they weren't! In Australia I've only ever seen candy corn in the shops once and then the time when my sister brought them home.

Disclaimer! I didn't realise until I was about to take photos of this mani that I realised I'd put the colours in the wrong order. :( BOOOO. If you're not familiar with candy corn, I should've put the orange and yellow the other way around. I have not done very many successful manis for this challenge have I. :( Oh well, my boyfriend said it still reminded me of it.
Please also excuse the oily cuticles. I really need to make sure the pictures are fine before I remove my mani...

I used a base of Sally Hansen Whirlwind White, and then did a gradient with a makeup sponge and Face of Australia Easy Peasy Lemon Squeezy, and Essie Fear or Desire. :)

On the plus side, my nubbins don't look too bad here! Yay! :)

This is Halloween: 12/10 Jack o Lanterns

Hey lovely ladies!

I want to apologise for my previous mani I put up for this challenge. It was far from my best work! I'm trying to do my manis for the challenge at least a few days in advance so that in case my idea doesn't work out, I have time to retry it. :)

Today's theme is Jack o Lanterns! I wish people carved/decorated pumpkins here. It looks like fun! Okay, I wish we celebrated Halloween properly here to begin with!

For this mani I used Essie - Fear or Desire (told you that you'd be seeing this polish a lot in the challenge! I reckon by the time it's over, I'll have used up the whole mini bottle!) and a black BYS striper, which I am in need of replacing because it's becoming a bit stringy and thick! They're great stripers but they're kinda pricey at $5 each from Gloss.

I chose to do my Jack o Lantern only on my ring finger, and I did black french tips on all other nails. :) I wanted to make my Jack o Lantern more of a cute/happy looking one. Didn't really work. LOL.

I tested out my mum's camera for these photos. Not sure if I like it better than my camera. My camera seems to make all of my photos look very dark, even when I take them outside (unless I'm in the sun - and there hasn't been any of that for the last few days!). I made a small light box the other day which is what I used to take these photos. Please bare with me while I try and figure out a good lighting/camera situation! I'm not a fan of the glare on these photos. :(

This is Halloween: 8/10 Ghosts

Hey there ghoul-friends. ;) HAHA. So lame, sorry.
How are you all? Hope you had/are having a great weekend, depending on where you live! I'm basically all better from my sickness now! Still coughing a bit but I feel soooo much better!

Today's mani is the third for the This is Halloween challenge! :) The theme is "ghosts".
I have to tell you that this mani was a fail, again. :( Because I am so impatient I smudged EVERY nail with my top coat. I hope you can look past the smudges. x) Wish I'd had time to redo this mani but I didn't. :(
Please also excuse the messy cuticles. Since I was so unimpressed with the mani, I completely forgot to do cleanup. I promise my next manis will not be so much of a fail!

This is Halloween: Oct. 5 - Water Marble

Hi girls! :)
I'm so excited for today's post. And you may be thinking how can she be excited about water marble after her last attempt!? Well, I'm excited because...

IT WORKED THIS TIME.

Yep, that's right! ;) It worked for me! I had NO problems whatsoever this time! How very exciting. :)
I have a few suspicions as to why it worked well this time.
1. I used a bottle of (filtered) water that I'd had sitting in my room for about a day so it was definitely room temperature this time.
2. I used a larger cup than last time, where I used a disposable shot glass.


I think those things helped me to get a better water marble. Last time I tried this (you can see that HERE - but believe me, it's not pretty :P) the polish wouldn't spread and I think this was because I used non-room-temperature water. :P
A larger cup than I used last time definitely helped too. I'd say to use just a regular cup size. I thought a shot glass would be good because it was small, and since it was disposable I could just chuck it out instead of ruining a cup. But that didn't work because it made it extremely hard to clean up the extra polish in the water before bringing my finger out.

I would definitely recommend watching SimpleLittlePleasures on YouTube because she has AMAZING tutorials. Also, my friend Aubrey from Instagram has an awesome tutorial on her blog here which is also super helpful! Her water marbles are gorgeous! :D

So anyway, onto my water marble. :)

I used Essie - Fear or Desire, which you'll be seeing this a LOT during this month, it's my only true orange in my collection! I really should pick up some more... Let me know if you have any affordable recommendations! I'd like to buy some more oranges but since I will only probably wear them in October around Halloween, I don't want to spend a lot on them. :P and I also used NYC - Night which is my go-to black (other than Ulta3 - Black Satin, which is a bit too fast drying for a water marble!).

I'm so proud of the way this turned out! :) Even though the black didn't turn out very dark on my ring and pinkie, and my middle finger turned out a little funny, that doesn't bother me because it worked much better than my last attempt. :D

The This is Halloween Challenge is super fun so far! :)

Polyvore Collage Day: Autumn

Hey girlies! Today I read on Lacquer Buzz about the "Polyvore Collage Day" started by The Treasure Chest! :) You can read her main post about it here. I thought I'd join because it sounds like fun!

The first theme for this is 'Autumn'. It's not Autumn here right now, it's Spring but I love Autumn polishes so who cares. :D Like I've said before, I'm feeling very confused about the seasons right now because of all the Autumn colours I'm seeing coming out in new collections and on my friends' nails! :P I feel like wearing vampy dark colours! But hey it's still pretty cold here. ;)

I don't own all of these shades but they're all very trendy for Autumn, or they're just colours I love for the season! :)

Top L-R:

• OPI - Berlin There Done That from the Fall 2012 collection. This polish is a nude-taupe-ish shade. I only want a few from the Germany collection & this is one of them! It's along the lines of OPI - You Don't Know Jacques (another great Autumn colour!) but it's lighter.
• Revlon ColorStay - Midnight. I loooove this polish. I just took it off my nails earlier today actually. It's an awesome dark teal colour. It's basically opaque in one coat and the formula is so nice. I really like the Revlon ColorStay polishes.
• China Glaze - Purrfect Plum. I am looooving dark, vampy plum/berry colours right now. <3 Sooo gorgeous for Autumn. This is from the Fall 2012 Safari collection.
• Butter London - Pillar Box Red. Any red creme polish is a must have for Autumn! I got this Butter London polish free with InStyle magazine a couple weeks ago! :D The prices of everything are inflated crazily here but sometimes we get cool deals. :) This red is probably a bit too bright for Autumn but any red is pretty and classic.
• OPI - Every Month is Oktoberfest, from the Germany collection. You need to Google swatches of this polish. This is my #1 must have from the Germany collection. Well, number one on my wish list. I don't have it yet. :( But I WILL. It is freaking gorgeous. Really vampy and duochrome-ish.

BOTTOM L-R:

• China Glaze - Exotic Encounters, from the Safari collection. Such a lovely muted green shade. Very nice for Autumn!
• Butter London - Wallis. I believe this one came out this time last year. I bought it about 3 months ago (yep... I paid RRP... Don't ask how much that was :P) and haven't worn it. :O How crazy am I!? Haha. I must wear it soon before the weather gets warm. I'd feel weird wearing this one in Summer. But it is soooo nice. Sort of an "ugly/pretty" colour. ;)
• OPI - Russian Navy. Super classic OPI colour from the permanent line. I have a mini bottle of this one and I'm halfway through it! Need to get a full size. :( It's so lovely. A deep navy with blue and purple shimmer.
• Essie - Lady Like from the Fall 2011 collection. This is one of my ALL TIME fave polishes! :D I had a mini and I bought a full size a few months ago because I love it! :) It's a very pretty mauvey-pink colour that can almost look like a nude in low lighting.
• Essie - Mesmerized. Bright royal/cobalt blue! :) Blues like this are super popular and trendy right now! I don't own this particular one but I've seen it on other girls and it looks gorgeous.

31DC2012: Day 22 - Inspired by a Song

Today's mani is inspired by a song, by my favourite singer of ALL time. <3 Delta Goodrem was my biggest role model when I was little. She still is an amazing role model. If you're not from Australia you probably don't know who she is. Well you may know her as the woman who dated Nick Jonas last year. This November I will have been a huge Delta fan for TEN years. How crazy! :O If you don't know who she is, you should really Google search her. She's amazing. :) I was sooooooo lucky this year and I got to meet her... TWICE! It was surreal to see her in person. I bawled my eyes out when I saw her. LOL.

So this mani is inspired by one of my favourite songs by her; Butterfly. :) She opened her Visualise Tour in 2005 with this song!

So obviously, since the song is called Butterfly, I did butterfly nail art! This nail art is also inspired by Brie (strawbrie on Instagram) who did a GORGEOUS butterfly mani recently!

I first did a sponged gradient with Essie - Van d Go and a coral franken that I made and showed you here. This franken is pretty similar to Sally Hansen - Coral Reef if you like the colour! I then used acrylic paints and a striping brush for the rest of the nail art! :)

31DC2012: Day 18 - Half Moon

Hello there! :) How are you today? I'm happy because my boyfriend has a week off work so I will actually have someone to hang out with this week! Haha! Less time to do my nails but that's okay :)

Today I have a half moon mani to show you. Well it isn't a traditional half moon mani but I think it still counts. ;)
I did more of a "half moon reversed chevron mani". LOL. I've seen this look on some blogs and Instagram and really wanted to try it! Most girls use tape to do the triangle at the cuticle area but I honestly couldn't be bothered waiting for my base to dry, so I freehanded it! Up close it's far from perfect but from afar, it looks alright! :) I didn't even notice until I started editing my photos that I smudged the orange polish on my pinky nail! :( It's really not noticable AT ALL in real life! I just looked at my nails up close to try and see the smudge and I honestly can barely see it. I guess the bright lighting I use for my photos just enhances it.

For the pink base I used China Glaze - Dance Baby from the Spring 2012 collection, and for the half moon chevron I used Essie - Fear or Desire from the Summer 2012 collection. I don't think I'll ever wear this orange shade as a full mani but I've used it for nail art a few times now and I really like it! I'm sure this colour would look great on other girls but I'm just not fond of orange on my skin tone. I don't think I can pull it off. :P

As you may have noticed, I shortened my nails even more. I'm not really sure why. I've just been looking at gorgeous short nails and once I start filing, I can't stop. LOL. I shortened them a little more today so they're a little shorter than yesterday's post. I don't think I'll be going any shorter than this though. I only have about 2mm of free edge on each nail right now so I really can't physically go much shorter without it being super painful. To be honest I don't hate them this short. I didn't like the length of my nails in my previous posts but I don't mind them this length. I'd be lying if I said I didn't miss my long nails though.

31DC2012: Day 15 - Delicate

Helloo again. :) Today's nails are delicate themed! Technically it was delicate print, but I couldn't really come up with a print! So I just decided to go with delicate in general.

I had a hard time coming up with a design but I asked for some help with ideas from my nail girlies and the lovely Brie (strawbrie on Instagram) suggested snowflakes! Thanks Brie!

For the base I used Essie - Bikini So Teeny and topped it with China Glaze - Snow Globe. For the snowflakes I used a white striper by BYS, and for the dots I used Ulta3 - Lily White (an awesome white, by the way! Very opaque and apparently great for stamping, though I haven't tried it yet).

These snowflake nails are kinda perfect for today because it's kinda cold outside and it's been raining. :( The weather is so mean! It's really warm and sunny one day, and then raining for a freaking week! Can't wait for summer.

31DC2012: Day 12 - Stripes

Today's theme is stripes! I have a tape mani to show you! :) I don't have a whole lot to say so I'll just get right into it!

The lovely Yvonne (lafemmelulu) on Instagram inspired this mani! She is the queen of tape manis! She does absolutely gorgeous manis every time! If you have IG and aren't following her, you're crazy! Go and follow her right now! :)

For the base I used Essence - Sweet as Candy, a sheer jelly pink. It's not really streaky, but I wish it leveled out as nicely as the OPI Ballet Collection sheer jellies do! I then used a thin coat of Essie - Good to Go fast drying top coat so that layer would dry faster. I waited about 40 minutes and then taped off a section of my nail and painted the tip of my nail with China Glaze - Fast Track, a new polish to me from the Hunger Games collection that is a nude with tons of gorgeous gold shimmer. I then used another coat of Good to Go over that, and once it was dry, I taped off a section slightly lower down and used Essie - Super Bossa Nova, a hot pink with loads of pink and blue-ish shimmer. And then I topped it off with Seche Vite top coat.

Sadly I didn't get to wear this mani for longer than a couple hours because it just would NOT dry completely. I guess I had way too many layers of polish. :( I'd love to try this again though, and try to wait longer in between coats of polish.

I'm kinda excited about tomorrow's mani I have to show you! :) Animal print! Sadly tomorrow is the last day you'll be seeing my nails at a length that I actually like. :(
